Catching Up With Bolton FM: Sharing Our Story, Our Animals & Our Christmas Appeal
This week, our team members Jenna Jones and Rachel Gregory had the pleasure of joining Dave on Bolton FM to chat all about the Destitute Animals Shelter, and what a lovely conversation it was!
One of the first things Dave mentioned was that he hadn’t heard of the shelter before, and he’s not alone, despite the fact that we’ve been helping animals in Bolton for over 100 years. Jenna and Rachel took the opportunity to share a little of our history and explain the important work we do every single day.
They also talked through the variety of dogs and cats we care for, the different situations they come from, and how the cost-of-living crisis has sadly led to a rise in animals needing rescue and support. It’s something we’re seeing more than ever, and spreading awareness is so important.
Of course, we spoke about the reminder that dogs aren’t just for Christmas, and how giving an animal a home is a lifelong commitment, not a seasonal decision.
Dave enjoyed hearing about the fun side of shelter life too, including how we name our kitten groups after themes like pasta, Harry Potter, cocktails, and more! These little touches bring a bit of joy to the team and our supporters, especially during busy periods.
Jenna and Rachel also highlighted our Christmas Appeal, explaining how the community can get involved, donate, or support the animals this festive season. They chatted about our pop-up shops, the items available, and how funds raised directly help the cats and dogs in our care.
It was a wonderful opportunity to spread the word, raise awareness, and celebrate the work our team, volunteers, and supporters help us carry out every day.
