This volunteer role is crucial for ensure smooth running of The Destitute Animal Shelter Charity Shop (DAS-CS). We rely on our charity shop assistants to help to sort, organise and store donations, and to interact, positively with our customers/supporters. This is an important voluntary position as it generates much needed income to support the work we do at the shelter, helps to give a second lease of life to preloved merchandise, and supports our charity shop managers!
What you will be doing
The main tasks for a charity shop assistant include, but are not limited to:-
As mentioned, a key part of this role is to sort, categorise and organise stock for the charity shop.This is a huge portion of the role and ensures the smooth running of the shop floor.
At times you may be asked to “buddy-up” with other volunteers or members of staff for some tasks. However, this role may also include working on your own.
Skills, Experience and Qualities Needed
All of our volunteers need to be a minimum of 18 years of age as a matter of health and safety and for insurance purposes.

When and Where
Our charity shop assistants will be required on a rota-basis, usually doing a set shift each week. However, this can be discussed with a member of the management team.
The charity shop is located at 210 Chorley Old Rd, BL1 3BG. The charity shop assistant volunteer role is an in-person position but you may be asked to pick up donations if you are able to.
Support Offered
We rely on our charity shop assistants to support the work that the charity shop undertakes on a day-to-day basis, and in-turn help the animals in desperate need of shelter, veterinary attention, food, and support.

Please do note that when working with any animals it is possible that injuries may occur – in the form of scratches or bites.
Any and all injuries, no matter the severity MUST be reported to a member of staff and logged in the accident book.
