This volunteer role is crucial for ensure smooth running of The Destitute Animal Shelter (DAS). We rely on our voluntary receptionists to answer the phone line and email, and to welcome our potential adopters, customers, and supporters. This is an important voluntary position as it directly supports the shelter staff/volunteers and the animals in our care!
What you will be doing
The main tasks for a voluntary receptionistinclude, but are not limited to:-
As mentioned, a key part of this role is to answer phone or email enquiries. This is a huge portion of the role and ensures the smooth running of the shelter.
At times you may be asked to “buddy-up” with other volunteers or members of staff for some tasks. However, this role may also include working on your own.
Skills, experience and qualities needed
All of our volunteers need to be a minimum of 18 years of age as a matter of health and safety and for insurance purposes.
Ideally our voluntary receptionists will have:-

When and where
Our voluntary receptionists will be required on a rota-basis, usually doing a set shift each week. However, this can be discussed with a member of the management team. The volunteer role is an in-person position.
Support offered
We rely on our voluntary receptionists to support the work that the shelter undertakes on a day-to-day basis, and in-turn help the animals in desperate need of shelter, veterinary attention, food, and support.

Our voluntary receptionists will get immense satisfaction that their help is making such a big impact on the lives of many of the local abandoned dogs and cats. As well as gaining valuable first-hand experience of the work that goes into running The Destitute Animal Shelter.

Please do note that when working with any animals it is possible that injuries may occur – in the form of scratches or bites.
Any and all injuries, no matter the severity MUST be reported to a member of staff and logged in the accident book.
