Start building your career in the animal care industry with The Destitute Animals Shelter.

We offer a limited number of work placements for students aged 16+ who are in full-time education studying animal related courses.

A placement with us gives you the opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience including:

• Animal Care and Husbandry
• Grooming
• Dog Training
• Enrichment
• Cleaning and Disinfection

Your placement isn’t just about completing the work experience hours required as part of your studies. Experience is incredibly important when looking for your first job in the animal care industry, and starting to build your skills, knowledge and confidence now can help you stand out when applying for future roles.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn, develop practical skills, build your confidence and experience what it’s really like to work within the animal care industry.

And that experience matters. When you’re applying for your first job after finishing your studies, having already worked within a professional environment can help you stand out from the crowd.

We aren’t looking for someone simply because they like dogs or cats.
We’re looking for the next generation of animal care professionals — people who are prepared to learn, work hard, take responsibility and make the most of the opportunity.

We’re looking for students who are:

✔️ Professional and reliable
✔️ Enthusiastic and motivated
✔️ Genuinely passionate about building a career in animal care
✔️ Willing to learn and take on feedback
✔️ Follows instructions
✔️ Confident communicators
✔️ Positive and hardworking
✔️ Comfortable working as part of a professional team

A placement at The Destitute Animals Shelter can be an exciting opportunity to experience what it’s really like to work within a busy, professional animal care environment.
